Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan on Wednesday admitted that the ruling LDF could not clinch victory expected in the just-concluded civic polls, but said the government will take corrective steps to recoup the lost ground before the Assembly polls due in six months.
The front and the party (CPI-M) will seriously analyse the reasons for the defeat and take corrective measures as soon as possible,” he told reporters after a cabinet meeting here.
The shortcomings of the ruling combine in convincing the people of government’s achievements and ‘collusion’ of Congress-led UDF with communal forces were the main factors behind the outcome, the Chief Minister said.
“We take victories and defeats, which come one after the other,in our stride. We will examine the reasons for the loss and rectify the shortcoming to emerge stronger,” he said.
He alleged that the Congress and allies had exploited religious and communal forces for their victory.
Asked if the LDF’s campaign had not prompted religious leaders to help UDF,the veteran Marxist leader said “I do not want to go into all the details before a thorough anlaysis of results is made by the party and the coalition”.
On the victory of CPI-M rebels in the party’s pocket borough Onchiyam panchayat in Kozhikode district,he said “many such phenomena have worked in the polls.”
The LDF was battered by its rival UDF in all the tiers of civic institutions in the polls.
