Bedis parallel: UAE hand-chopping law

TRIGGERING fresh fears about the anti-constitutional nature of its protest,Team Anna member Kiran Bedi today desired that the Lokpal evoke the same dread as the UAE law mandating that the hand of a thief be chopped off as punishment.

There is no democracy in the UAE. The hands of thieves are chopped off there. There is a fear of law. If the CBI is under the control of Lokpal,wrongdoers will have the same fear, said Bedi,speaking at todays joint Team Anna-Ramdev protest.

Bedi also claimed that Hazare and Ramdev had begun the journey against corruption together but had been separated by vested interests. It is good to see them together now,and they will remain so. Efforts of interested parties to split them will not succeed, the Team Anna member said.

This is not the first time Hazare and his team have suggested that they condoned violence to tackle what they see as wrong. When Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar was slapped by a protester,Hazare is alleged to have said Just one slap?. He has also advocated flogging alcoholics.
