In a fit of rage, Kamble allegedly picked up a knife lying in the house and stabbed Dhone in the chest, police said.
The Santacruz police have arrested a 35-year-old woman for allegedly stabbing her friend to death during a heated argument at her residence in Santacruz (West) on Thursday night.
The accused, identified as Kamala Sanjay Kamble alias Preeti, 35, a resident of Gajdhar Bandh area, and the victim, Reshma Dhone, 37, had known each other for over a decade and were reportedly on strained terms due to a previous dispute.
According to the police, the two women met at Kamble’s residence, where they were having a party, when an argument broke out over an earlier issue. Police said Dhone had allegedly not visited Kamble’s house despite being invited earlier, which led to a confrontation that quickly escalated.
In a fit of rage, Kamble allegedly picked up a knife lying in the house and stabbed Dhone in the chest, police said. Hearing Dhone’s screams, neighbours alerted the police. A patrolling team rushed the injured woman to hospital, where she was declared dead.
Kamble was taken into custody from the spot and later arrested under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The FIR was registered on the complaint of Dhone’s son. Further investigation is underway, a police officer said.
