Pray for the World, Paris attacks, Karuna Ezara Parikh Jamaat-e-Islami’s biweekly, Daawat, in its editorial on November 22, has strongly criticised US President Barack Obama.

Hyderabad- and Bangalore-based daily, Siasat, in its editorial on November 16, writes: “The terrorist attack in Paris was an extremely dastardly, cowardly and inhuman act. There cannot be any excuse for such an attack and there cannot be any defence for such barbarity. It is being condemned by every country. If the Islamic State is bent on keeping the people of the entire world under a spell of fear, then there needs to be a well-thought-out strategy to kill its evil resolve. For doing so, all peace loving countries will have to come together for a viable consensus.”

Another leading Hyderabad-based daily, Rehnuma-e-Deccan, in its editorial on the same day writes: “There are innumerable Muslims who hate those calling themselves the Islamic State and they are fleeing Syria and Iraq to get away from the IS. More importantly, they are considering Germany and other Western countries safer for them. It can, therefore, be inferred that the vast majority of Muslims are against this type of barbarity and, in fact, considers the IS an enemy of Islam.”

Jamaat-e-Islami’s biweekly, Daawat, in its editorial on November 22, has strongly criticised US President Barack Obama. It writes: “Obama is giving the impression that terrorism is related only to Muslims and these attacks were not condemned by Muslims to the extent that they should have been, whereas the entire world has accepted that terrorism is not related to any religion, race or country. This was also stated in the joint statement recently issued during the G-20 Summit in Turkey. Then why did Obama choose to express these views against Muslims? …The whole world knows that the IS and Taliban, whom the US has portrayed as the symbol of terrorism, were raised on US support, to serve its own worldwide interests.”

Bihar Verdict

The daily Inquilab, in its editorial on November 18, writes: “After the grand success of the Bihar election formula, every secular citizen of the country wants that this formula should be adopted wherever elections are held from now on.” Daawat, on November 19, writes: “There is no doubt that the result in Bihar is a referendum on the functioning of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.” It states that the Bihar result will give a new direction to national politics, and its clear effect will be seen in the forthcoming assembly elections next year, “because the BJP is not going to change with
regard to its ideology and policies after the defeat in Bihar.”

On November 18, Roznama Khabrein stated that a crucial decision now lies with the SP and the BSP in UP. “If these two parties come together on a common platform in today’s scenario, the BJP will be wiped out. But if these two stick to their stubbornness, the BJP cannot be shown the door in UP.”

Mushawarat Split

According to a frontpage report in Roznama Khabrein on November 24, the All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat — the most influential Muslim organisation that has played a very significant role in elections since 1967 — has been split vertically. The current president of the Mushawarat, Zafar-ul-Islam Khan has banned its former mercurial, and now ailing, president Syed Shahabuddin from using the Mushawarat’s office and staff. Khan has described Shahabuddin as a burden on the organisation and levelled the charge of hatching a conspiracy. Shahabuddin had earlier written a letter to Khan alleging that some of Khan’s actions were “undemocratic”. According to the newspaper report, none of the senior leaders of the Mushawarat has raised any objection so far to the current president’s “chargesheet” against one of the main promoters of the organisation over the last four decades. Incidentally, this development has taken place on the eve of the election for the new office bearers of the Mushawarat.
