A day after an attack using drones left two dead in Imphal West district, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh told The Indian Express that the case would be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Two persons including a woman were killed and several others were injured on Sunday when armed Kuki groups attacked the Koutruk area using drones.

On Monday, three civilians were injured in a similar bomb attack using drones at Senjam Chirang Maning Leikai in Imphal West district. Security forces are in the area to repulse the attack.

In Imphal East, tensions escalated early on Monday, a police source said, as suspected Kuki militants attacked the 8th India Reserve Battalion (IRB) post at a hilltop at Sinam Kom village.

During the attack, the militants allegedly used drone bombings, and mortars followed by heavy firing before leaving the area.

Following the sudden attack, the IRB personnel evacuated the posts and took positions in a nearby safe place. The source said that the militants overpowered the IRB bunker and took three automatic rifles, including one AK-47, one INSAS, and one INSAS LMG. Sinam Kom is located about 22 km from Imphal.

The exchange of fire resumed at around 7:30 am after district commandos from Imphal East and central forces arrived with reinforcements. Later, Manipur police, along with central forces, regained control of the area and recaptured the bunker.
