Crime Detection, As the Khed Rural Police swung into action and busted an eight-member gang of highway robbers. Once an alert constable spotted two of the gang members, the police got into the act, and with the help of the villagers, caught the robbers.
Tribal health care, With State Minister for Health Daulatrao Aher announcing 250 Primary Health Care PHC centres and 2,598 sub-centres to be put up to take care of the medical needs of tribals. Of these, 105 would come up in the rural areas along with the requisite number of sub-centres allotted for each centre.
Foreign students, With the University of Pune UoP having come up with a manual including their admissions, beginning 1999. The rules will cover important information such as eligibility and procedure for conducting tests. This will go a long way in helping foreign students in search of better education opportunities.
Employment in the dairy industry, With the State Government announcing new employment schemes. The scheme envisages providing proper cattle sheds, cattle and the necessary finance to veterinary graduates. The government has decided to use the existing government land for the purpose.

The primary health centres, As a recent inspection revealed that 102 out of 341 PHCs did not have medical officers residing in their village of posting. The hygiene conditions are pathetic and records of the expiry date of medicines were either incomplete or non-existent.
The mula river beautification plans, As the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC asked for fresh proposals. The much-delayed river-beautification plan scrapped the seven proposals it had received so far.
City roads, As statistics reveal that they are more dangerous than the highways as far as fatalities go. The fatality figures made a quantum jump from 1997 as by November 1998, the number of fatal road mishaps had crossed the total number of fatalities in 1997.
