MUMBAI, Sept 23: St Xavier8217;s Vile Parle became the under-12 Division III champions, when they defeated St Dominic Savio Andheri by a solitary goal in the Inter-School football tournament, sponsored by Colgate Palmolive, at the MSSA-Castrol Schools Sports Centre, Azad Maidan, today.

The all-important goal was scored by Cleophas, son of former Orkay star player Remy Fernandes, in the 15th minute of the first-half. Cleophas showed good anticipation. He trapped and scored from close after the ball came out from a bunch of players on the left.

Ironnically, it was Dominic Savio who dictated terms. They were all over the rival territory right through. But the Xavier8217;s defence, marshalled by stopper and captain Warren D8217;Souza, withstood the pressure by hefty clearences from the deep.

The other player to shine in the Xavier8217;s rearguard was Xavier8217;s goalkeeper Eugene D8217;Mello who was also in fine fettle and brought off four good saves.Earlier in the Hardlines encounter, St Xavier8217;s Fort defeated St Paul8217;sDadar with a goal in each session.

Paul8217;s suffered the same fate as did Dominic Savio. They were the aggresors right through but fell to counter-attacks after calling the tune right through the 40-minute clash. Vishal Parmar and Gordon Rodrigues were the goal-getters.

Hat-tricks by Shelton Rodrigues 4 and Ameya Shetye 3 were the highlight of St Mary8217;s SSC A8217;s 7-0 rout of St Mary8217;s ISC B in the under-8 D section.
