It8217;s been proved that handwriting reveals the person that you are. So, will changing the way you write change the person you are? Yes, say experts. Worldwide, Graphotherapy is gaining popularity as a tool for treating various personality, psychological and even pathological problems.
Maureen Burns, US-based Graphotherapist, offers a simple definition of Graphotherapy: 8220;It is the art of eliminating letter formations and writing styles indicating recurring, self sabotaging attitudes/behaviours and then substituting these with writing styles that are still true to the inner self but are more finely developed.8221;
Bangalore-based Rafiullah Baig, the president of Handwriting Institute India, says handwriting can be manipulated to check many personality disorders. 8220;A lot of psychological problems like depression,high stress, low self-esteem, hyper sensitivity to criticism and volatile temper can be easily controlled using Graphotherapy.8221;
Baig claims it has even proved effective in handling serious problems like dissociative personality disorder and suicidal tendencies. A good number of Baig8217;s clients are children as well. 8220;The most common problem is that their writing is illegible.8221; Baig explains the reason: 8220;The most common reason is that the muscle alignment is not in tune with the mind. But sometimes, the cause is purely psychological. Children coming from unhappy families may have bad handwriting. In such cases, we counsel the parents along with helping the child with his/her handwriting.8221;
However, not every case is as serious. A lot of people approach Graphotherapy for problems like lack of confidence and concentration. Says Niraj Manchanda, Mumbai-based Graphotherapist: 8220;Television actor Manini De had come to me complaining of lack of confidence and a tendency to procrastinate. I asked her to change her handwriting and her signature, and it worked wonders for her.8217;8217; Agrees Burns: 8220; I have evolved in ways that would have not been possible without Graphotherapy.8221;
According to experts, Graphotherapy is a very concrete and predictable technique. Explains Burns: 8220;Though handwriting is a conscious act, the unconscious is revealed by the letter formations and writing style. Most self-sabotaging behaviours stem from fears of rejection, inadequacy of the self and of course powerlessness.8221;
A trained analyst is generally able to get a very clear picture of the writer8217;s attitudes and behaviour after studying the handwriting. The Graphotherapist tells the client, which writing formations, strokes, and spaces indicate particular self-sabotaging attitudes, and recommend the therapeutic changes.8221; That is all it takes to decode your mind, say therapists. Baig gives some interesting insights. 8220;A depressed person8217;s handwriting will always begin in straight lines and then start falling down. Similarly, a person with low self-confidence will always mark the T bar lower t. The best course of treatment for such a person is to make him cross the bars higher.8221;
In case of multiple personality disorders, slant is the vital clue. 8220;A person with multiple or spilt personality will have varying slants left, right and straight in the same line. Get that right and your problem is solved,8221; says Baig.
While Graphotherapy is mostly used to treat attitude and behavioural problems, some vouch for its effectiveness in dealing with pathological problems too. Says Niraj Manchanda: 8220;A person with problems in the lower parts of the body will usually have a break in the lower loops of letters for example, letters like y and g. If that is corrected, their medical problems also vanish.8221; It takes about a month to change your writing and another before the results become evident.
Popular in the US and Europe, Graphotherapy is still in nascent stages in India. But according to therapists, 8220;People are becoming increasingly aware of the possibilities of changing handwriting to improve health.8221;
So, what are you waiting for? Write something and read between the lines. It could change your world!
Bollywood writes
Niraj Manchanda shares his observation on the handwritings of two of Bollywood8217;s hottest stars: 8220;Hrithik Roshan has a very straight handwriting. So he has a very practical approach towards everything. That8217;s why he keeps applying his tried and tested method in every film. A right slant would make him slightly more emotional and intense as an actor. On the other hand, Shah Rukh Khan, with his right slanted handwriting, is very emotional. And that is very visible in the way he acts.8221;
