Polling for Maharashtra Municipal Corporation polls will be held on January 15, 2026 for 29 Municipal corporations, including the high-profile Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Polling is scheduled to take place in a single phase.

Over one crore voters are expected to cast their vote to elect the local bodies in Municipal corporations. Only voters whose names are mentioned on the final electoral roll are eligible to cast their votes. The result will be announced the next day on January 16, 2026.

The 227-member Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) along with 1,700 candidates are contesting the civic elections. Of them, 879 are women and 821 are men. The BMC is India’s largest and richest civic body. The counting of votes is scheduled for January 16.

Here’s how you can check your name in voter list for Maharashtra civic polls: 

Maharashtra State Election Commission Voter List portal: Voters can check their names on the dedicated website of the Maharashtra state election commission: mahasecvoterlist.in. You can visit mahasecvoterlist.in and search for your name using either your full name or your EPIC number.

National Voters’ Service Portal (NSVP): Visit the website voters.eci.gov.in and go to ‘Search your name in voter list’ option. Then search for your name using your EPIC number.

Voter Helpline App: Voters can also search for their names on the Election Commission’s Voter Helpline App. It can be downloaded from eci.gov.in/voter-helpline-app/.

Once you have confirmed your name on the electoral roll, voters are advised to carry a valid photo ID card (Aadhaar or PAN Card), Passport to the polling booths.

According to PTI, the number of contestants in 2026 marks a decline of 25.27 per cent from the 2,275 candidates who fought the civic polls in February 2017. “At that time, a total of 1,190 males, 1,084 females and one transgender candidate had contested the elections,” the report said.
