John Wright today cautioned the national players against complacency and warned that lack of consistency could cost them their place as there were a number of 8220;keen and hungry8221; youngsters waiting to force their way into the national squad.

8220;We don8217;t want players to rest on their laurels. So, you need to be performing consistently all the time8230; And it8217;s important for the players who are playing for India to know that young and keen and hungry players will try and force themselves into the top side,8221; Wright told reporters here.

Dravid, Yuvraj end up
on losing sides

London: India8217;s star batsmen Rahul Dravid and Yuvraj Singh ended up on the losing side in the second division county cricket yesterday.
Dravid, making his debut for Scotland at Edinburgh made 25 as his side struggled to score 201 for eight in 45 overs. Hampshire overwhelmed them by scoring 202 for four wickets in 43 overs.

Pakistan speedstar Wasim Akram was the most successful Hampshire bowlers with three for 29.
At Headingley, Yuvraj Singh showed glimpses of his potential when he scored 56 for Yorkshire in the first innings but was dismissed cheaply in the second knock for just one.
Durham, which scored 280 in the first innings, restricted Yorkshire to 220. In the second knock Durham made 200 setting Yorkshire a winning target of 261 but shot them out for 93. PTI

Wright is here to assist Sandeep Patil, coach of India 8216;A8217;, which is currently having its 18-day training camp at the National Cricket Academy here ahead of their six-week tour of England, where they would play 11 matches, beginning June 22.

Asked if there were 8220;slots8221; for some of India 8216;A8217; players in the top side, Wright said: 8220;It always depends on the performance of the incumbents. What I can say is that if there is a lot of competition, it8217;s good for Indian cricket.8221;

He said he is working with Patil and helping him prepare the team for England. 8220;It is very good from my point of view because I get to work with some of the boys who might have an opportunity to force themselves into the top side. I am looking forward to it.8221;

Wright said there would not be any clash in the coaching styles of Patil and himself as both were working for the same purpose. 8220;I have played against him Patil. I admire him for the job he has done for the Kenyan team. It8217;s important that coaches learn and know from each other8221;.

On wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel, Wright said he had an outstanding start to his career but now needs experience. Terming his new assignment a 8220;challenge8221;, Patil said: 8220;Boys are looking good8221;. Asked if he believed India A players stood a chance to break into the senior side, which right now appeared well-set, he said 8220;It8217;s for the boys to create opportunities.8221;
