CHANDIGARH, Jan 29: Headquarters and North-East Zone won their respective matches in the Food Corporation of India Inter-Zonal cricket tournament here today.
HQ beat West Zone by 30 runs while North-East prevailed by 83 runs over South Zone in shortened matches after the heavy rains yesterday had left the grounds slushy this morning. Both the matches were played over 15-overs-a-side.
HQ made 115 for 6 in their allotted quota. Sanjeev Kohli scored 52 off 41 balls with four boundaries. In reply, West were managed only 85 for 6 in their share of the overs. Only Manmohan, with 25 runs, put any contribution as others failed to get going.
Bachhan Singh’s quickfire unbeaten 63, off only 31 balls, put north-east zone in a commanding position. The team totalled 148 for 5 in 15 overs and then restricted their opponents to a mere 65 for 5. D Roy claimed four wickets.
