Minutes before the Indian team was announced, Ranadeb Bose was talking to this paper, saying how disappointed he would be if didn8217;t get that call-up. 8220;I can8217;t tell you how I would feel if I don8217;t get a call,8221; he said.
He had been consistently performing at the domestic level. This season he was the highest wicket-taker with 57 scalps from eight matches, far ahead of the second highest wicket-taker Joginder Sharma8217;s 39. Sharma has had a call-up already, while Bose is still waiting.
8220;If someone has performed so well, and so consistently over years, one should be picked. And if one is not given a chance after such an impressive domestic season, I think the system is flawed,8221; said Aunshuman Gaekwad, former chief selector.
8220;They could have tried him against Bangladesh. All other bowlers have been tried and tested. I am afraid such steps would disappoint other performers. Tell me what is the motivation to do well at the domestic circuit?8221; asked Gaekwad.
Yet, Bose can be philosophical. 8220;I love the game so much. I don8217;t look at my age, I just keep playing. Right from day one I have been aspiring to play for India. And the day I feel I am no more thinking of playing for the country, I will retire. That is the motivation which keeps me going,8221; the 27-year-old Bengal pacer said.
