Los Angeles: Veteran British actress Jean Simmons,most noted for her roles in films like Guys and Dolls,Elmer Gantry and Spartacus,has died at the age of 80. Simmons,who won an Emmy award for her role in the 1980s mini-series The Thorn Birds,died on Friday evening at her home in Santa Monica of lung cancer,her agent Judy Page told the Los Angeles Times. Simmons,who rose to stardom after portraying the role of Ophelia in Laurence Oliviers Hamlet 1948 for which she received an Academy award nomination for Best Supporting actress,was picked from a dance class by a talent scout at the tender age of 14.

OBrien thanks fans in Tonight farewell

New York: Conan OBrien ended his brief stint as host of the The Tonight Show on Friday,taking shots at NBC but ultimately taking the high road and thanking his former employer for a chance at the best job in the world. This company has been my home for most of my adult life, OBrien told the Burbank,California,audience and home viewers during his final moments on the show,which began with a sustained standing ovation from the fans who chanted Conan,Conan.

The singer says she was always different,but could always rely on the support of her parents. My parents always knew I was different,I was never a normal kid. I talked differently.
