UP couple get death for honour killing

A court in Badaun Saturday awarded death sentence to a couple who had killed their daughter and a youth in their house in Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh last year.

Additional District and Sessions Judge S N Tripathi found the crime rarest of the rare and awarded death sentence to Mastan Shah,50,and wife Shakeela for killing their 16-year-old daughter Chandani and a youth from their village,Idrees,28,on June 29,2012,said assistant district government counsel Gyan Swaroop Gupta.

Gupta said the trial was completed within two months and the prosecution produced a total of five witnesses in the case.

He said Idrees had left his house in the evening of June 29,informing his father Abdul Raheem that he was going to a fair in Gunnaur town. He said instead of going to Gunnaur,Idrees reached Chandanis house. Gupta said Shah and his wife found Idrees and Chandani in a room in their house in the night. A

fter getting Chandani and Idrees out of the room,Shah and his wife tied them with a rope and slit their throats with a knife. Gupta said the bodies of Chandani and Idrees were recovered from the house the next day.

Defence counsel Prempal Singh said he will file appeal against the verdict.
