Unease in HRD

With Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal considering a review of some of the appointments made by his predecessor,AICTE All India Council for Technical Education chief R A Yadav and UGC Chairman Prof Sukhdeo Thorat are anticipating tough times. Both have been desperately seeking time with the new minister but it hasnt helped. With talk circulating of an overarching Higher Education Commission,their wings may either be clipped or their bodies fully disbanded. The appointment review plan also has UGC Vice-Chairperson Prof Ved Prakash,who was brought to the post by Arjun Singh after he failed to make the cut for vice-chancellor of a central university,worried. No wonder,he was the first to arrive at Shastri Bhavan with a bouquet to greet Sibal minutes after he took charge.
