BEIRUT: United Nations inspectors arrived at a military hospital in a government-held area of Damascus on Friday to visit soldiers affected by an apparent chemical attack,a Reuters witness said. Witnesses said the team were meeting with soldiers at the Mezze Military Airport who government media said were exposed to poison gas in Jobar on Saturday. The UN inspectors were not carrying body armour,indicating they would not cross into rebel-held territory after their visit to the military base.
Israel deploys its missile defence
JERUSALEM: Israel deployed its Iron Dome missile defence system in Tel Aviv Friday,local media said. A battery of the mobile system was set up during Friday morning in the greater Tel Aviv area. News website Ynet said unlike last November when the interceptor missiles brought down rockets fired from Gaza to the south,this time they were pointing north,towards Syria. PM Benjamin Netanyahu said,We have decided to deploy Iron Dome and other interceptors8230; We are not involved in the war8230; But if anyone tries to harm Israeli citizens,the army will respond with force.
Saudi Arabia raises military alertness
DOHA,CAIRO: Saudi Arabia,a supporter of rebels fighting to Assad,has raised its level of military alertness in anticipation of a possible Western strike in Syria,sources said Friday. Saudi Arabias defence readiness has been raised to two from five,a Saudi military source said. One is the highest level of alert. It is a must,no one knows what will happen, he said.
