Two CRPF men killed in Kashmir

Officials said the unidentified militants gunned down two personnel who were on the Road Opening Party duty.

Unidentified gunmen killed two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel in South Kashmirs Awantipore area on Thursday. The incident took placed near the Armys Victor Force headquarters.

Officials said the unidentified militants gunned down two personnel who were on the Road Opening Party duty near Jawbara village on Srinagar to Jammu national highway in Awantipore around 5.45 pm.

The suspected militants managed to escape. Soon after the killing,the Army and police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation in order to track down the culprits. A senior police officer confirmed the killing. No militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

The Victor Force headquarters tackles counter insurgency operations in South Kashmir.

Meanwhile,troops in the region were put on a high alert as Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi addressed a public rally in Pulwama in the afternoon.
