His father has promised him a school uniform after he gets the money. Dilip Prabhavalkar believes in natural manure for the fields and he even advises the other farmers to do the same but no one listens to him. They use the harmful insecticide that is available in the market. The crop does not fetch enough money and Bharat is in a dilemma as he has to pay back many people. The moneylender comes home to collect his money and when Bharat cannot pay,he pawns his fields and home in return. Bharat and his wife decide to commit suicide and also kill their children by feeding them fritters to which poison will be added. This is to be done on Republic Day. Both the children overhear this.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE :
Though there have been several films on farmers suicides lately, director Nitin Nandan needs to be applauded for making one that not only touches several issues but also manages to convey some hard-hitting messages. It states that suicide is not a solution to any problem. The other message is that organic manure is very effective for the crops and Prabhavalkar is shown teaching how it can be manufactured at home. Also the fact that banks are more reliable than the local moneylender is another highlight. Chimnay Kambli as little Shyam is a delight. He touches the heart with his charming smile and brilliant performance. Bharat Jadhav,in a very different role, also manages to touch a chord. His body language and speech are enough to show that he is a troubled man. Dilip Prabhavalkar is good as Kavi, who is considered mad by the villagers,Madhvi Juvekar as Shyams aai and Aarti More as Dipti are effective in their roles. Sanjay Mone plays the one-eyed school teacher who pretends to be harsh but is a softie at heart. The film is definitely worth a watch.
RATING:
Three stars, for Nitin Nandans beautiful story and excellent direction, for Chinmay Kamblis effortless performance and Bharat Jadhavs heart-felt acting.
