Every inch of Saltanat Manzil exudes royal heritage intricate carvings on its arched gates,a high-ceilinged foyer lit up by chandeliers, umpteen antique artefacts,a large central courtyard and even a clock tower. It was constructed in 1922 by Nawab Syed Hamid Husain Khan,a descendent of Nawab Mir Shah Ali Khan, the law minister of Awadhs first king,Nawab Ghaziuddin Haider. Husain named the house after his wife,Saltanat Begum. He built the clock tower in the memory of his son,Irshad Husain, who died at the age of 30. His descendent, advocate Syed Masoom Raza,is the current owner. The ground floor has been rented out to shops, and a portion has been converted into a shrine. Faisal Fareed
