Actor Sanjay Dutts flat in Pali Hill and his office in Santacruz was attached on Tuesday for failing to compensate producer Shakeel Noorani, who suffered huge losses after the actor abandoned his film. The High Courts execution department had asked the Sheriffs office to attach the properties after Noorani sought implementation of an arbitration award passed in his favour by the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association IMPPA in January this year. The case goes back to 2001 when Noorani signed Dutt for his Jaan Ki Baazi.Nooranis lawyer Ashok Sarogi said Noorani had even paid him a signing amount of Rs 50 lakh. But after 50 per cent of the film was completed,Dutt refused to give further dates. Noorani suffered huge losses and moved the IMPPA,the sole arbitration authority for disputes between IMPPA members and Cine Artists Association, said Sarogi. When Dutt did not appear before the committee or repay the amount to Noorani, the IMPPA passed the award on January 28,2010. Dutt had 30 days to challenge the order before the HC but failed to do so. Sarogi moved the High Court in October, seeking implementation of the award. The legal recourse available to Dutt is that he can appeal against the execution order before the High Court prothonotary department or else the properties could be disposed off, said Sarogi. Dutts lawyer Satish Maneshinde said the actor would appeal against the order after court vacation is over.
