Rodrigues defends aide,calls him competent

While the Central Bureau of Investigation has booked Major Nirvikar Singh,Aide-de-Camp of former Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator

While the Central Bureau of Investigation has booked Major Nirvikar Singh,Aide-de-Camp of former Punjab Governor-cum-UT Administrator General retd. SF Rodrigues for possessing assets around 216 per cent disproportionate to his known sources of income,General Rodrigues has come out in Nirvikars defence.

Expressing surprise on CBIs action against Nirvikar Singh,General Rodrigues, speaking to The Indian Express on phone from Goa,said,I am surprised to hear that Nirvikar has assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. In fact,as far as I know him,he was a committed boy and comes from a well-off and reputed family. I feel,he should be given due opportunity to explain his side.

I had always told everybody in my team that whatever they want to do,they are free to do it,but the nations interest should be supreme, Rodrigues added.

On Nirvikars interference in the functioning of Chandigarh Administrations policies and mega projects,General Rodrigues said,The officers in my team were absolutely committed to their job. There was no question of anybodys interference in anybodys work.

Nirvikar is alleged to have amassed most of the disproportionate assets during his tenure as ADC to General Rodrigues. On being asked, whether he feels cheated by Nirvikar,General Rodrigues said,I cannot say that, because to me,Nirvikar always appeared a fair person. I have always treated my entire team as a family.

Rodrigues admitted that he recommended Nirvikars name for his posting to countrys premier investigating agency Research and Analysis Wing RAW.

It is the prevailing system in the entire country. Anybody who is going on a new job has to be recommended by his previous organisation and the same thing was done in Nirvikars case. There is nothing wrong with it.
