Normally, a new incumbent gets a week's time to take charge, but Shukla, who was appointed on Saturday, took the reins of the agency within two days in the backdrop of the agency's tussle with the Kolkata Police which broke out on Sunday, officials said.
"The CBI has been repeatedly misused by the BJP, which is trying to use the probe agency for political gains and turn it into 'His Master's Voice'," she said, referring to the fiasco surrounding Alok Verma.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi is likely to consider the response of Verma given in a sealed cover on the findings of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in the preliminary inquiry against him.
Sources said the CBI followed the trail of some saved WhatsApp messages retrieved from Manoj Prasad, a Dubai-based middlemen. Manoj was arrested by the agency from Delhi airport on Tuesday. Somesh is Manoj’s relative.
