Even as controversies continue to plague implementation of the centrally sponsored Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojana PMGSY in Chhattisgarh,a BJP legislator has raised questions over the quality of road construction and also demanded blacklisting of erring contractors.

In a letter written to Chief Minister Raman Singh,BJP legislator Devji Bhai Patel cited instances of a few construction firms allegedly owned by close relatives of BJP leaders that have not completed construction of roads even after securing work orders about five years ago in Raipur and other parts of the state. Patel said that legislators had been raising the issue of poor quality of roads constructed under PMGSY but no action has yet been taken in this regard.

Patel pointed out that Raipurs PMGSY project implementation unit meeting, presided over by the district collector, had expressed concerns over the delay in road construction under PMGSY and recommended stern action against contractors, including Bafna Infrastructure Private Limited,Durg, and Sanjay Agrawal of Raipur. He demanded blacklisting of such firms and entrusting of work to other agencies.
