The National Commission for Women NCW approached the Mumbai Police Saturday, requesting them to provide security to the Tehelka journalist who has levelled sexual assault charge against Tarun Tejpal.
The request came after the complainant, who lives and works in Mumbai, claimed that members of Tejpals family were pressuring and intimidating her to protect him.
National Commission for Women member Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar said she had contacted Joint Commissioner of Police Crime Himanshu Roy on Saturday after reading the victims statement.
We spoke about providing her security in light of the intimidation. However,we would like that she give it in writing to the police, Prabhawalkar said.
The police said they have not yet received any such request from the complainant. Our stand is that we will provide security if the complainant asks for it. She has not made a request to us for security so far, said Roy.
