Pearl Academy of Fashion which has branches in Delhi,Jaipur,Chennai and now one in Noida had their graduation show last week on Saturday at Delhi's Siri Fort auditorium. Titled Portfolio 2012,(an annual property that completed 19 years this time) the collections were created by more than 100 students and sent out for the world to see on well known models. For me,graduation shows are one of the most significant indicators of what the industry fondly calls The Future of Fashion. More than GenNext and Emerging Designer shows at fashion weeks. They replicate what the students have inherited through education and fashion influence through role models and social commentary and how they want to tweak this inheritance. This is also a more interesting time in the careers for budding designers as they are not yet tainted by the politics of fashion (read fashion week slots, sponsors, advisory boards with different agendas,or whether the retailers will mark their clothes down by 50 per cent.). Instead the booming, blooming word "creativity" takes centre stage in their minds and they seemingly create without too many doubts and fears. I found some clothes quite interesting, trying to make more than one point at a time. Here are some photographs, check out for yourself.
