Plea for CBI probe rejected

The Supreme Court dismissed a petition by Y S Vijayamma, wife of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy

The Supreme Court Monday dismissed a petition by Y S Vijayamma, wife of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajashekar Reddy,to order a CBI probe into alleged disproportionate assets owned by former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Finding no grounds to interfere with the Andhra Pradesh HCs recent order,a Bench of Justices T S Thakur and Ibrahim Kalifulla asked Vijayamma to instead approach a competent court or authority with her plea.

While acknowledging that the petitioner had political rivalry with Naidu, presently the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, the court also made it clear that it was not inclined to go into the merits of her allegations at this stage.

The HC had dismissed Vijayammas plea, noting it was politically motivated as several similar petitions had earlier been filed against Naidu. The HC had directed a CBI probe against Naidu but set aside its order after Naidu,on a liberty granted by the SC to challenge the said ex parte order, again moved the High Court. Vijayamma had filed the present petition challenging this order.
