Maan Rahe Tera Pitaah is a sad tale about a girl fighting for the pride of her mentally imbalanced father. Durgaprasad Pramod Moutho is a doctor, who has lost his sanity after his wifes Natasha accidental death caused by a coal mine in their village Brahmapur. He has been protesting against some Englishmen sad bunch of blonde-wigged extras who have come to the village to strike a deal with Durgas younger brother,Kaaliprasad Varun Badola. The foreigners want to start a mining project which would benefit the people of the village,at least thats what Kaaliprasad wants everyone to believe. Durga leaves no opportunities to thwart Kaalis plans as he feels the coal project will only turn the village into a graveyard!
Meanwhile,Durgas daughter Anmol Archana Taide on one hand has to protect her father from the wrath of Kaalis wife and son and on the other hand has to handle her deranged father with kid-gloves! Meanwhile,Kaali claims to support Anmol and understand his elder brothers mental condition but at the same time cannot ignore the villagers long-term well being. And we think, there is something more to Kaali than meets the eye and it wont be long before he shows his true colours.

Set in some part of Jharkhand, the show is visually different from the regular cardboard sets viewers have begun to get tired of. The language keeps changing from the dialect used in that region to regular Hindi. The story moves at an excruciatingly slow pace and sometimes you want to just shake Anmol to do something quick and fast. For the most part, she is running after her father, trying to stop him from doing anything that could upset her uncle. Then she is weeping too when she is not looking at her father helplessly and her chachaji, hopelessly.
Besides, its a little difficult to digest Durgas condition considering he is a doctor. Besides, why couldnt his brother act in time to save him from going completely nutty? Also, the reason why Durga protests against the coal project is not entirely convincing. Come on,accidents do happen! We wish the back-story was more compelling.

On the upside,Moutho as the loony father nails the performance. He puts in an endearing act. So does Archana who doesnt have much to do but her chemistry with Moutho makes it a tender father-daughter relationship. Badolas hair goes from jet black to peppery grey but he tries to infuse his Kaali with the right amount of restraint and dominance. Though we found his waving to the janta,a la Amitabh Bachchan in Sarkaar,a little funny! He tries to act his character age and succeeds for most part. Kshiti Jog as his wife is miscast as she cant really carry off the nagging chachi bit.
All said and done,a really depressing story, which could do with some fine-tuning,pace and some smiles!
Verdict:
Watch it when you are not feeling blue!
