Patna constable ‘kills’ physically challenged student,absconding

They had reportedly fought over use of the common bathroom

A police constable beat a physically challenged college student to death and then made it appear like suicide in Vishnupuri area of the city,police officials said on Saturday.

The death of Satyendra Pal was initially taken to be a case of suicide by the police until the victim’s seven-year-old nephew,who lived with him,told them that his uncle was beaten to death.

The murder took place on the intervening night of April 21-22. While the accused,Jitendra Kumar,a constable at Sri Krishnapuri police station,is absconding,his wife has been arrested by the police.

According to the police investigation,both Pal,who was pursuing graduation from BD Evening College,and Kumar were tenants in the house of one Nirmal Singh. They had reportedly fought over use of the common bathroom.

According to the police,Pal died when Kumar hit him in his testes. After he died,the constable tied his body to projected iron rods of the house to make look it like a suicide.

Patna Senior Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar said the police were waiting for post-mortem report to know the exact cause of the death. Pal,a resident of Navdiha,Nalanda,had been staying in Patna for over a year and his nephew had joined him only one and a half month ago.
