Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Sunday handed over appointment letters to 1,746 newly recruited police constables at the Punjab Armed Police (PAP) grounds in Jalandhar. The fresh induction includes 1,261 constables of the District Cadre and 485 of the Armed Cadre.
Addressing the recruits, the chief minister said, “The newly inducted personnel will play a decisive role in tackling key challenges facing the state, including drug trafficking, cybercrime, gang activity and border security.”
Emphasising that Punjab is a sensitive border state with a 532-kilometre international boundary, Mann said safeguarding the border and preventing the inflow of drugs, weapons and explosives will be a core responsibility of the police force in the coming years.
Mann reiterated that recruitment has been conducted in a completely merit-based and transparent manner, ending the earlier system of “cash and recommendations.” He urged the new constables to serve the public with integrity, professionalism and commitment, and to actively address public grievances while ensuring justice and public welfare.
Highlighting future priorities, Mann said the Punjab Police will continue to be strengthened through modern technology, advanced investigation methods and specialised manpower to combat cyber fraud and organised crime. He said the state has already deployed anti-drone systems in border districts and will further upgrade surveillance and policing capabilities to meet emerging security threats.
CM Mann also briefly referred to the government’s broader employment record, noting that more than 63,000 government jobs have been provided after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in March 2022.
