A man who was undergoing treatment for injuries suffered in a gun attack survived another attack at Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj Medical University on Thursday night when two assailants forced their way into his ward and pumped two bullets into him.
The same assailants had attacked Shiv Nandan Yadav,35,earlier. They were Yadavs distant relatives and the crime was a result of old enmity, police said, adding that one of them had been working at the university as a security guard until a month ago.
While one bullet passed through Yadavs neck, doctors removed the other one which was lodged in his neck. The bullet lodged in his shoulder after the first attack in Tikaitganj area of Barabanki is yet to be taken out.
While the incident spread panic among the patients and their attendants,it also highlighted the chinks in the security system of the hospital. The security here is no good. Last night, there was one security guard and he could not stop them. They could have shot anyone, said a patient.
Chief Medical Superintendent Dr N S Shankhwar said we had deployed an unarmed security guard in the ward. Now we have placed two gunmen there. Senior police officers have assured us of extra vigilance on the campus during the night.
