In what could be a technical violation of airspace, three Pakistani fighters were spotted flying close to the Indian border in the Jammu region on Tuesday afternoon. While the jets did not cross the border, they were spotted flying low close to the international boundary by an army air observation post.

As per norms, fighter jets are not permitted to fly within 10 km of the border and helicopters are not permitted within 5 km of the border.

Ground based observers reported sighting of three Pakistani fighters fling in close proximity, low across the border, an IAF spokesperson said.

Air space violations, though not common, are frequently reported along the Pakistani border. Defence Minster AK Antony earlier this month informed that Indian airspace has been violated 29 times by foreign aircraft since December 2007,23 of which were Pakistani aircraft.
