Orissa student shot dead in Boston

Seshadri was pursuing an MBA degree in mathematical finance treasury management at Boston University.

Bank manager K Sudhakar Raos dreams for his eldest son K Seshadri Rao,a student of United States Boston University,were dashed on Thursday night when unidentified assailants shot him dead at a street near the university.

K Seshadri Rao,a 24-year-old studying in Graduate School of Management of Boston University was found shot in the head and legs late on Thursday night at Allston Street of Boston,when he was on his way back to his hostel from the universitys computer centre. When the US police reached the spot,he was receiving medical assistance from the Boston Fire Department as he was suffering from severe head trauma. He died soon after.

Seshadris father K Sudhakar Rao,manager in Utkal Gramya Bank in Jeypore in Koraput district,said that his son never had enmity with anyone. He did not have any bad habits. On Thursday night he called me up and we spoke for some time. He told me that he was going to sleep. I cannot imagine he could be killed by anyone like this, said a shocked Rao.

Rao said his son was a brilliant student throughout his career and had received an offer from a company in the US to do an internship.

Seshadri was pursuing an MBA degree in mathematical finance treasury management at Boston University. He was scheduled to complete the four-semester 18-month course in May and had been offered a three-month paid internship in a company there. Sudhakar said he got a verification call about his sons body on Thursday night. After I confirmed from the documents they read out to me as that of my son,the authorities there declared the unidentified body as that of my son, he said. I am now worried as to whether my sons body can reach here by Monday as Saturdays and Sundays are holidays in US. If they send the body on Monday,then it would be too late, he said.

Strongly condemning the killing,Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said on Saturday that he would take up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs. I strongly condemn the killing in the US. I will take up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs today, Naveen said,adding that he has asked the officials to arrange the arrival of the students body.

Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said police are stepping up patrols across the city in neighbourhoods affected by the surge in violence. No arrests have been made in the case yet.

University president Robert Brown said police and university police are investigating the circumstances of the dreadful crime.
