The fate of 39 dental medical colleges in different state appears uncertain with regulator Dental Council of India DCI rejecting their applications for further admissions as these colleges have not been able to meet the mandatory requirements.
The colleges which have not been allowed to make admissions for this year include Faculty of Dentistry,Jamia Millia Islamia; Patna Dental College; Banaras Hindu University Dental College; HS Judge Institute of Dental Sciences,Chandigarh; Government Dental College,Jaipur; Jammu Government College,Jammu; Bhabha Dental College,Bhopal; Sharda Universitys School of Dental College; Adesh Dental College,Bathinda; Awadh Dental College,Jamshedpur; and Sri Aurbindo Dental College,Indore.
Following negative recommendations of the DCI for these medical colleges,a four-member committee headed by the Director General of Health Services Dr R K Srivastava will now take the final call on whether a chance should be given to them or not. The committee is likely to decide on the issue by July 15.
The DCIs decision to not allow admissions in these institutes was not taken in haste, according to sources. During inspections in April this year, deficiencies were found in these colleges. They were given an opportunity to work on these but with the deficiencies still persisting, the DCI was left wih no option but to give negative recommendations to the government, a source in the Union Health Ministry said.
A total of 128 dental colleges had applied for renewal for admissions this year, out of which DCI has rejected 39.
