Mystery shrouds the death of a Junior Commissioned Officer (JOC) along the LoC in the Uri sector of North Kashmir two days ago,with the Army still to lodge a police complaint and a team of local doctors asked to perform an autopsy told that the body has been shifted to Srinagar.
JCO Prakash Chander of Uttarakhand was leading an area domination patrol of the 8 Kumaon along the LoC in Uroosa village past Tuesday midnight when he died.
The Army has not registered an FIR about the incident at our police station, Station House Officer,Uri,said.
The Army has also not performed an autopsy at the local government hospital,as is the norm. Sources said the Army contacted local health officials to carry out an autopsy but later told them the body had been shifted to Srinagar.
Block Medical Officer,Uri,Farooq said the Army told him to get a team ready for an autopsy. We waited till eve-ning but they did not come to the hospital, he said. Monday morning reports said the Army came under heavy fire from Pakistani posts that lasted over an hour. An Army spokesperson initially said the JOC died in the firing. However,it was clear by Monday evening that there was no ceasefire violation or exchange of fire in Uri.
