The ruling BJD has called a bandh on April 26 to protest poor allocation to Orissa from the Backward Region Grant Fund, alleging the UPA government was helping Bihar on political considerations.
It is unfortunate that the Centre is discriminating against Orissa on political considerations. This is a clear case of negligence of our state once again, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said, referring to Rs 12,000 crore allocation to Bihar. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had approved allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for Orissas Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput districts from BRGF.
To protest the discrimination,BJD would observe a 12-hour bandh on April 26,said BJD general secretary and Energy Minister Arun Sahoo. The party will also hold demonstrations in front of the Raj Bhavan on April 22. The Biju Yuva Janata Dal has also planned a series of protests in the coming days.
Protest meetings will be organised at the district headquarters towns of the KBK districts against the meagre allocation next week.
On Friday,Panchayati Raj Minister Kalpataru Das alleged that the UPA gave Rs 12,000 crore to Bihar in lieu of support from Nitish. Even Bundelkhand got more than Orissa, he said. Das alleged that while all the 38 districts of Bihar have been included in the BRGF,only eight KBK districts of Orissa would get the same benefit.
