Naveen govt ignored poor,Dalits: Rahul

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for neglecting the Dalits and tribals of Orissa.

AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for neglecting the Dalits and tribals of Orissa.

Rahul, who started his election campaign in Orissa with a rally in riot-hit Baliguda block of Kandhamal district, said poverty was more prevalent in Orissa than elsewhere in the country. The prevalence of poverty is perhaps greater among the tribals and Dalits, Rahul said.

The rally at the mini stadium in Baliguda was well-attended with about 7,000 people turning up to hear the young leader.

Baliguda was at the centre of the riots in Kandhamal last year after VHP leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati was killed along with his followers on August 23 at the Jalespeta ashram,40 km from here.

Rahul said that different schemes started by the UPA Government at the centre were hardly implemented by the state Government.

Rahul said if his party is elected to power,Dalits and tribals would get more attention. We will have a government that works for the poor, he said.

The AICC leader also slammed the BJP accusing it of starting a war on religion while referring to the Kandhamal riots.
