The first day of the special session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday saw empty Opposition benches while ruling party members gave uninterrupted marathon speeches. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, after making the inaugural speech, was seen engrossed in taking notes. A brainchild of the CM,aimed at finding a roadmap for the states development, the session will get over on May 14.

There were some good and drastic suggestions but they were tucked in between boring speeches punctuated by references to the Congress whose members were registering their protest outside the House calling the session unconstitutional. Used as they are to targeting the Opposition benches, the ruling party legislators, however, appeared clueless where to focus when they took the microphone.

When legislators kept referring to the Congress members,Speaker Ishwardas Rohani advised them to stop criticising them Congress members because they are not present to defend themselves. Follow the principle of natural justice, he said.

The only semblance of Opposition were the five members of the Bharatiya Janshakti.
