The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has questioned around 30 officials of the state Urban Development Department in connection with the missing pages of a file related to Adarsh Housing Society. Around 30 officials from Mantralaya have been called for questioning and their statements have been recorded. Investigations are still on, said an officer. The Crime Branch has lodged a case under sections related to theft and destruction of evidence.
Sources said the pages might have disappeared some years ago.
The notings on the missing pages were made around 2000-2003 when Ramanand Tiwari was Principal Secretary and P V Deshmukh was Deputy Secretary, sources said.
Urban Development officials said the notings were about the reduction of the width of Captain Prakash Pethe Marg from 60.97 metres to 18.40 metres. A large part of the road was in the residential zone, including a part of the plot on which the 31-storey building has come up. The papers had notings by department officials who allowed the society to carry out construction in the eco-sensitive CRZ II zone using a routine Environment Ministry letter as a go-ahead for development.
