Mayawati asks PM for minorities quota

Chief Minister Mayawati has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking reservation for minorities,particularly Muslims

Chief Minister Mayawati has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh seeking reservation for minorities,particularly Muslims,in accordance with their population. Mayawati has said that a constitutional amendment can be considered if required.

The Chief Minister has said that her government would extend its full cooperation in this regard.

Stating that there is urgent need to provide opportunities to minorities,particularly Muslims,for their progress in every field including education and employment,she has said that the religious minorities remain backward.

She has referred to the Sachar Committee report in support of her statement.

According to her,the Sachar committee report has given several suggestions such as increasing opportunities for minorities in education,economic activities and employment.

She has requested the PM to give top priority to this subject of high importance.

Earlier,SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had made a similar demand for minorities.
