The Union Public Service Commission UPSC on Monday clarified that civil services aspirant Manjunath,who committed suicide over an alleged goof up in the final result,did not qualify at the preliminary stage and hence was not eligible to appear for the main examination. The commission also denied there was any error in final result as reported in the media.
According to the UPSC,Manjunath had appeared for the preliminary exam under the roll number 538950 but did not qualify.
Shri Manjunath V Y having not qualified the Civil Services Preliminary Examination,2012,was not a candidate for the Civil Services Main Examination and accordingly,could not have appeared for the CS Main Examination and the interview as claimed in a section of the press, a statement by the commission said.
According to the police,Manjunath was upset over a goof-up in the UPSC results. Manjunaths family had claimed that while he secured the 264th rank in the coveted exam,there was another persons name mentioned against his roll number 538745 in the result list.
The commission clarified that as per its records,roll number 538745 was allotted to B Ashwin who qualified both the preliminary and the main exams and the results announced by UPSC are correct and correctly indicate Ashwins name against the roll number.
