9-year-old abducted; her driver killed in AP
HYDERABAD: A nine-year-old girl was abducted on her way to school and her driver murdered by kidnappers in Andhra Pradeshs Vijayawada city on Saturday morning,the police said. The girl,daughter of a hotel owner in Vijayawada,was going to school along with her brother in a car when three unidentified men threw stones on the vehicle after it reached BRTS Road near Satyanaraynpuram. When driver Lakshman got down to check what was wrong,they attacked him and later stabbed him with knives, Vijayawada Police Commissioner K V Rajendranath Reddy said over phone.
AMU Chancellor selection today
NEW DELHI: The Aligarh Muslim University Court will meet on Sunday with the election of the Chancellor on its agenda. However,as directed by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday,the court will have to elect 42 members to fill up various vacant positions first. The Court is also expected to elect five of its members to represent it in the universitys executive council. Sundays election is expected to pit two-time AMU Chancellor and former Chief Justice of India A M Ahmadi and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Azad has reportedly received support from a section of the faculty.
Maoists kill mine worker in Orissa
BHUBANESWAR: Maoists late on Friday night killed a mine worker by slitting his throat for being a police informer,hours after they had killed a CITU leader on a similar suspicion. The body of 23-year-old John Munda of Girijatola village under Koida police station of Sundargarh,Orissa,was found on Saturday morning in a mutilated condition. Munda was abducted by a group of armed Maoists on Friday night from his village.
Two gangmen run over by train in MP
SAGAR: Two gangmen died when Sabarmati Express ran over them in Bina section of West Central Railway,the police said here on Saturday. The incident happened on Friday when the two along with other gangmen were working on the rail tracks,they said. Police have registered a case and investigations are underway.
