Four red kangaroos, two male and two female, were brought to Alipore Zoological Gardens,Kolkata, from a park in Czech Republic on June 2. These are the first to be seen in the Zoo after they died out in 1976. Now,this is the only zoo in India that can claim to have kangaroos.
The animals are being kept quarantined for 30 days with CCTVs monitoring their behaviour and overall responses. Since Australia also falls in the tropical zone, the climatic conditions should not be hard to adjust to. By July 2,public viewing should be allowed, said Raju Das,director of the zoo.
