Outmaneuvering Congress members by hearing them out at the Public Accounts Committee PAC meeting, chairman Murli Manohar Joshi on Thursday set the stage for the submission of his report on the 2G spectrum scam by April 30.
I will inform you of my decision in two-three days, Joshi reportedly told the members. Sources said he may send them a draft report soon, which would offer them an opportunity to record their opinions. In case they flag any reservation,Joshi may counter Congress members with their own stated position that there is no need for calling witnesses and that the panel may submit its report straightaway.
The sources said three important witnesses Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrashekar,PMs Principal Secretary T K A Nair and Attorney General G E Vahanvati had sent their replies to questions sent by the PAC,which would be incorporated in the report. Joshi had to abandon the plan to examine them after Congress members disrupted the April 15 meeting.
Joshi pre-empted a repeat performance by announcing at the outset that he would want every participant to have his say,and if needed, twice or even thrice. Every member spoke with the exception of two D Venugopal of the DMK and AIADMKs N Balaganga. M Thambidurai of the AIADMK said the PAC would make a laughing stock of itself if it did not come out with a report after making so much effort.
