In RS,Cong sharpens attack on Vajpayee

Congress spokes-person Abhishek Manu Singhvi brought the knives out against the BJP as he took on the Opposition over the Liberhan Commissions report.

Congress spokes-person Abhishek Manu Singhvi brought the knives out against the BJP as he took on the Opposition over the Liberhan Commissions report. During the debate on the Commissions report in the Rajya Sabha,Singhvi launched a scathing attack against L K Advani, terming the Babri demolition a story about self-aggrandisement,in particular,of one man,a person who was then the president of the BJP and is today the Leader of Opposition. Not sparing former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee either,Singhvi said even if he was technically right, there were moral questions he had to answer on the issue and he,therefore, did share some guilt through his association with the party.

Further attacking Advani over changing reactions and statements on the issue, from claiming to the BBC that it was the saddest day of his life to later talking of building a temple at the site,Singhvi said,Even a crocodile has more genuine tears. Pointing towards other indicted BJP leaders in the report,Vinay Katiyar and Uma Bharti,he said that they at least were honest about their views unlike Advani who was speaking like Alice in Wonderland or Humpty Dumpty.

Terming the then UP CM Kalyan Singh as the prima donna of flip-flops,Singhvi added that Vajpayee could not claim to be secular and at the same time stay on with BJP. He cannot run with the communal hare and hunt with a secular hound, Singhvi said.

Saying the then PM P V Narsimha Rao was misled by the BJP,Singhvi went on to defend the Congress against all other associations with the issue. Terming the demolition a carefully conceived,cold-blooded,and calibrated conspiracy,he said the scale of preparation was evident from The Indian Express edition of December 5.
