Promotion of 4 IPS officers set aside
The Central Administrative Tribunal CAT on Thursday set aside the promotion of four IPS officers who were promoted last year. Raj Kanojia,Arvind Maliwal,R K Pachnanda and Banibrata Basu were promoted to the post of Additional Director General from Inspector General last year. Anil Kumar,IG,Welfare,and R J S Naloa,IG,KMC challenged the promotion of the four officers on the ground that they were promoted superseding them. Advocate Kalyan Sarkar,counsel of Kumar said that the state government promoted the four officers but they were junior in service than Kumar and Naloa. The CAT also held that the promotional order issued on July 28,2009 would be reviewed within three months,according to the IPS rule of the Centre.

Hunger-strike by Cong workers
A group of Congress workers led by WBPCC chief Manas Bhunia held a six-hour hunger strike demanding arrest of those responsible for putting up a slanderous festoon on Mahatma Gandhis statue here. A little known organisation put up a festoon on August 17 saying Gandhiji had committed a mistake by asking the British to quit India.
