A Google engineer has been arrested by the police here in connection with the suicide of his wife,a content writer and assistant manager with Infosys Ltd,at their residence in the eastern part of the city on Monday.
Rohit Ananthakrishna was arrested on charges of abetting the suicide on the basis of a harassment complaint filed against him by parents of the deceased,Smitha Rao 32.
Rao,a former journalist who joined Infosys two years ago,was found hanging at the couples home by her husband on Monday morning when he returned home in panic after receiving a telephone call from his wife bidding him goodbye,ACP Narayanaswamy said
The police said,Ananthakrishna broke into the locked house through a window and tried to rescue his wife who was declared dead at a hospital.
Raos mother filed a complaint citing frequent harassment by her husband as a possible cause for suicide,the police said.
Ananthakrishna had been cooperating with the investigation and has spoken of discord with his wife,the police said. They added Ananthakrishna has revealed that he had fought on Monday morning with his wife.
The couple,whose marriage was arranged by their respective families,had been experiencing turmoil in their private life on several fronts and Rao was being treated for depression,friends of the family said.
SC pulls up Jaya govt for sacking panchayat workers
The Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up the Tamil Nadu government for dismissing over 12,000 panchayat workers appointed by the previous DMK government and wondered whether there was rule of law in the state.

The apex court passed the observation while adjourning Tamil Nadu governments plea challenging the Madras HC interim order directing reinstatement of about 15,000 MNPs on grounds that they were sacked on the whims of the government.
