FM asks states to speed up projects

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee asked Chief Ministers of western states to speed up approval for infrastructure projects.

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday asked Chief Ministers of western states to speed up approval for infrastructure projects,which have been held up due to regulatory issues.

Mukherjee held a review meeting of western states in Mumbai on issues pertaining to credit offtake,flow of funds to the farm sector and also launched a finance scheme for infrastructure projects.

IIFCL,LIC and IDFC signed an MoU on a take-out finance scheme,which will provide for take-out finance of up to 50 per cent of the total project in the ratio of 20:20:10 by the institutions. This will help financing to the tune of Rs 30,000 crore.

This will facilitate banks to take more exposure in new projects which,in turn,will help bridge the gap in infrastructure financing to a great extent, he said. 

Maharashtra,Gujarat,Rajasthan,Madhya Pradesh,Chhattisgarh,Goa,Daman amp; Diu and Dadra amp; Nagar Haveli were represented in the meeting.

CMDs of public sector banks and NABARD,SIDIB,National Housing Bank and IIFCL were also present.
