Ensure Army fatigues are not worn by paramilitary

The Army has once again approached the Home Ministry asking it to ensure that paramilitary forces dont wear their signature combat uniform

The Army has once again approached the Home Ministry asking it to ensure that paramilitary forces dont wear their signature combat uniform.

Now the ministry has called a meeting of the Central Armed Police Forces on Thursday to sort out the issue. The meeting assumes significance in wake of the recent protests particularly in Jamp;K against the killing of a young man in Baramulla district allegedly by an Army personnel.

The Army has said the discarded uniforms of their soldiers are being sold in the open market and that a lot of paramilitary personnel were found wearing it. Personnel of CRPF and BSF are deployed in Jamp;K and the Northeast to assist in security-related duties.

Some officials felt that in order to project normalcy in the state, the presence of men in uniform on the streets had to be reduced significantly. The state government had also requested to make the presence of troops less visible in the Valley and it was after this that the CRPF,which is deployed on law and order duty in Srinagar switched to khaki.

It has been found that some Army personnel sell their uniform in the open market, which was being bought by some paramilitary jawans. The uniforms had Armys logo on it and this must have annoyed some officials, said a senior official who chose to remain unnamed.

The MHA has asked the representatives of the CAPFs to come up with suggestions to reduce such incidents.
