Elcina,the Electronic Industries Association of India,handed out awards across seven categories for excellence in electronics hardware manufacturing and services during the 35th annual presentation ceremony. Heading the class of winners was Ajay Chowdhry,chairman and CEO,HCL Infosystems Ltd,who took home the award for Electronics Man of the Year.
There is a gap in electronic production in India that needs to be covered and needs government support, Chowdhry said during his acceptance speech . When asked about the governments challenges in facing American policies aimed at curbing outsourcing to the sector in India,Chowdhry said,These kinds of things happen,I wouldnt take it
so seriously.
ELCINA was the first organization in India to institute annual awards for excellence in electronics manufacturing in the year 1976. The awards recognize outstanding achievements of electronics amp; IT manufacturing companies in India. Through these awards,ELCINA achieves its objective of encouraging the industry to meet global standards.
The ceremony also gave newly appointed Secretary,Ministry of Information Technologies,R Chandrashekhar an opportunity to throw his support behind the growing industry. A lot of people dont have confidence that Indias IT sector can grow in the same manner that telecom did, he told the audience of IT and electronics leaders. But the confidence I have is not without foundation; there are success stories in this sector to build on.
Awards were given out for exports both large scale and small scale for quality,research and development,business excellence and entrepreneurial excellence.
