Fools8217; Gold
Rating:
Shankar Bajpayee is a goldsmith madly in love with Suvarnalata Chhabria. She turns out to be a gold-digger: a dus tola necklace he makes for her is grabbed by her father, and held out as dowry for a Dubai groom.
This slender storyline is stretched out for two hours and some. And within the first few minutes you know you are in for tedium, because Dus Tola could have been done and over with in a half-hour TV episode. The village is called, yes,Sonapur. Suvarna is a synonym for gold. The dialogue is underlined and obvious. And the moral of the story greed is not good is hammered home. Bajpayee plays Shankar well. But even he cant underplay in this kind of a film, where each character is given a single tone. Theres a sadhu in colourful garb. A sick father who coughs all the time. A sarpanch who spends all his time at a chai ki dukaan. And a nice girl who is the right one for our sunaar.
